Click for photos during Merit at Luang Prabang, Laos
Luang Prabang is located in North Central Laos. It is situated on the Mekong River and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has a very interesting fusion of urban Lao mixed with French Colonial architecture. There are some important Buddhist Temples here and also is the location of the National Museum, formerly the Royal Palace.
I got up early this day to photograph Buddhists make merit to the early morning parade of Monks. To make merit a person will give the monks rice or other food. What the monks don’t use for themselves, which is most of it, is donated to people in need.
Luang Prabang is a World Heritage Site. As tourists and budding photographers jockeyed for position to photograph the procession of monks I decided to focus my attention on some of the local people who gathered. This mother caught my eye with her beautiful scarf head dress and young baby in tow. I painted this a little more spontaneously than I usually do but wanted to capture the quality of this fleeting moment.
