Invalid Displayed GalleryI arrived at Candi Dasa on the Southeast coast of Bali just before the Galungan festival. The Galungan Festival is one of Indonesias’ most important festivals. It is a time when the spirits of ancestors come back to earth to be with the family. Food is prepared and offerings are made at family shrines.
On the first day of the festival everyone was gathering at a temple near my guesthouse. Eager to go and take some photos inside the temple I asked the guesthouse clerk if I could go in. No problem he replied but you’ll need these as he went to a back room and brought out his traditional headdress and sarong. Now thanks to the clerk I was on my way to the Galungan festival camera in hand. I captured this young lady just inside the entrance with the sun shining on her hair and back contrasted by the simple stone wall in the background. The women at the festival all wore traditional dress with beautiful lace, patterns and colors, many wore sheer fabrics with patterns that revealed another layer of clothing beneath like shown here. I liked the simplicity and captured moment of this young lady entering the temple.
